Windows and Security Updates

If you have a windows operating system, you probably aware of the built in feature that provides windows security updates. This security update feature ensures your windows operating system is up to date with patches and tools to protect your computer. The windows update website also provides patches, new tools and other downloads to improve computer performance and provide security updates.

The settings on your new computer enable automatic windows updates so you do not have to worry about downloading security patches or updates from the windows update website. The downloads are set for updates at a time when you would not be using the computer, say two or three a.m.  

If you want to check for windows updates, you can visit the windows update website. Search by the name and version of the operating system to find downloads that are compliant with your computer operating system. New computers always have the latest operating system installed.

When you select downloads for your operating system, you can check off the boxes for the updates you want to use. You may not need downloads for Italian, French or Chinese so don’t check the boxes for every download. Be selective about what you need since new tools and features can take up space on your computer hard drive. If you don’t have a particular media program, you don’t need to download the latest windows updates for that program. 

If you buy a software program, check to see if you have the latest windows updates for these programs. The manufacturer of the operating system often forms a partnership with other software manufacturers to test compatibility between programs and to provide windows security and updates to protect you from security issues and ensure that both software packages are compliant and will operate normally when used together.
