How safe is your operating system? Are you protected from computer malware and other risks?

Your windows operating system security rating depends greatly on the operating system you are running on your computer.  While the operating system manufacturer may provide windows updates, patches and security updates for older operating system versions, automated windows updates were not available in the original operating systems and are poorly integrated in all but the newest versions of windows operating systems.  

If you are running an operating system version that is more than two versions prior to the currently market operating system you are probably at risk. You can reduce your risk by visiting the windows update website and downloading the most recent security patches and windows updates for your version of the operating system. Even then, the older versions of operating systems will not protect you and your information as well as newer versions.

As security threats were identified in the past operating system manufacturers made significant improvements to detection and protection tools, and windows updates improved. Today’s technology allows for automatic downloads, and suppliers created a system that allowed users to relax and work, knowing they would not have to intervene or take action to get the latest windows updates.  

If the computer in your home is running an operating system that is eight or ten year old you will have to get a new computer to take advantage of the latest security and windows updates.  

If you buy a copy of a newer operating system with the intention of installing the new software on the old computer the chances are your old computer will not have enough memory or sufficient speed to support the new windows operating system. In that case you will have to buy a new computer with the new operating system and adequate speed and memory to run the new features and files used by the new operating system.  

Keep your computer updated with the newest windows updates by using automatic downloads or visit the windows update website often and check for windows and security upgrades to protect your computer.
